Research in Genomic Medicine is laying the foundation for identifying new drug treatments for individuals facing a wide range of health challenges.Researchers of the Health Science Center are committed to understanding how common disorders and conditions, such as cancer (breast, prostate, pancreatic), infectious diseases (human immunodeficiency virus infection and tuberculosis), neurodegenerative diseases (Parkinson's and Alzheimers disease), and complex birth defects, interact with multiple genes and environmental factors.  These are multifactorial disorders upon which genetic variations have protective and pathologic roles, making dissecting their individual genetic variants difficult yet they typify the vast majority of inherited susceptibility to disease.

LaboratoryThe Health Science Center is committed to being at the forefront of developing healthy life extension therapies from Genomic Medicine.  Genomic research is leading to the development of natural healing processes that work faster, including the use of special materials to re-grow missing or damaged tissue.  It will find application in burn injuries, blindness, deafness, heart damage, nerve damage, and a myriad of other adverse health conditions.  Genomic research is information-rich, and the sophisticated computations required to address highly complex biological problems will lead to the discovery of new preventions, diagnostic methods and treatment modalities.  We believe that our cutting-edge research will positively impact the health of all people and provide benefits that will be felt in both the developed and the developing world.  As the genome allows us to understand the whole human, Genomic Medicine will enable us to treat and care for the whole human.
