Our commitment to pushing the boundaries of science to address society’s health needs is illustrated through significant research initiatives. Health Science Center researchers are contributing significantly to policy reform to address some of the unique challenges of rural populations.  Our numerous outreach programs, such as those sponsored by our Rural and Community Health Institute, provide objective and impartial reviews to evaluate the quality of patient care while determining whether problems are systemic or physician specific to provide appropriate resolutions. These and other groundbreaking programs have had a significant impact on health-related practices and policies throughout the state. Through our education, research and outreach programs, the Health Science Center is taking the practice and commitment to quality health care and impacting local and state policy.

Father and DaughterThe Health Science Center has established a firm foundation for leadership that will allow it to coordinate a regional strategy to provide the uninsured and underinsured in Texas access to needed health care. Over the course of the next several years, the Health Science Center will continue its investment to enhance patient safety, improve quality of care, expand access to health promotion and education activities, and impact health policy.  This reinforcement of our commitment to investing in our fellow Texans will allow for better health care and enhance the overall health of our State.
