Large percentages of wounded American casualties are suffering from traumatic brain injury, spinal injuries, burns, unknown toxins, amputations and irremovable shrapnel. Mental health issues associated with grief, post traumatic stress syndrome, re-adjustment within their families and communities, and health care compliance must be addressed as we provide holistic health care to our veterans. Research underway by scientists in the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine is examining post traumatic stress syndrome associated with battlefield experiences of our returning soldiers.  World class scientific research is underway in regenerative medicine and genomic studies, and the foundation for tomorrow’s breakthroughs and discoveries are being preparedTwo soldiers today at the College of Medicine and the Health Science Centers Institute of Biosciences and Technology in Houston.  The Health Science Centers Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas is a nationally respected research and clinical center acclaimed for surgery related to many facial injuries.  The School of Rural Public Health is at the forefront of community and family health care issues and critical public health concerns related to re-adjustment and compliance.  As pharmaceutical research becomes more important with the aging population of veterans, the Health Science Centers Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy is prepared to make major contributions.  The Health Science Center’s commitment to our veterans hopes to be worthy of their great tradition of service to our country.
